Into The Summer....

The sun is out at last! great things have been happening...here is a snapshot of our progress over spring!

more research into crafts...

Woad and Indigo
Grown in Europe since the Stone Age, it has a long history with East Anglia. A natural dye for hand-spun wool...tye-dye days come to mind

check out this fab video of some home vintage dye courtesy of East Anglian Archives - a brilliant resource of regional footage

Looking at yet MORE animations for inspirational storytelling...

Some fantastic workshops in which we experimented with print and stamp making - exploring how best to create a visual identity for our promotional material..

Linocut Printing

which proved to be very popular - some members using their new skills in Graphics coursework! images of their beautiful work soon to follow!!

We had a visit from the lovely and very enthusiastic Ursula White at Independent Cinema MK, who spoke to us about running cinema events in unusual and challenging spaces...it got us thinking of wonderful approaches to production

and looked at ways we could manage our garden space

a great February...onto March!

Creating our advert....

For'm unanimously agreed that it wouldn't be fair on anyone else if they didn't share all the mindblowing-ly exciting things they do. Bearing in mind that they will soon have to think about getting word out about their showcase, the group started researching ways in which to advertise themselves as a forum. They decided that making an animation advert would not only be completely useful, but wildly fun and a great learning experience....

STORYBOARDS: graphic organisers using illustrations or images displayed in sequence. they are used to pre-visualise a motion picture, animation, motion graphic or interactive media sequence.

nifty fact - The storyboarding process, as it is known today, was developed at the Walt Disney Studio!

Pixar's 'Up'

A great individual to take some wisdom from is Mark Wigan

We also indulged ourselves with some examples of animation, and diverse approaches to film-making...

'A Town Called Panic' is an example of Puppetoon animation : a type of replacement animation- itself is a sort of stop- motion.

'A Brief History of John Baldessari' is a short film about the international artist, John Baldessari

Currently the group has created an initial storyboard, to get the hang of thinking sequentially, and are planning a future date for filming.....!

NEW YEAR!!!

HAPPY 2013!!!

For'm welcomed in the new year at our first meet on January 7th. After sharing our festive stories, we planned our schedule for 2013 and our grand master plan for our summer showcase....

the project...

Finally, our grand master plan has a face...this is the first illustration of our:

 Outdoor Heritage Hut Cinema

out with the old, in with the new...

Our last meeting of the year saw us sharing our project and ideas with Anne from the Bradwell Abbey Lacemakers. She showed us some divine examples of lace she had made in the past, and taught us some of the basics of lacemaking. We steamed our way through a pile of mince pies and a bag of chocolate whilst attempting to follow a lace snake pattern- which was executed rather slowly but very successfully.

So, after a solid hour of maniacally festive fun, we thanked Anne for a totally great introduction to lace and parted ways. It's been a fantastic autumn for For'm and at our next meeting - Jan 8th - we will be ready to hit the ground running!
Merry Xmas!!

We were lucky enough to have a visit from the Parks Trust this week, learning about managing woodland, the endless uses of natural foraged wood and how we can put our new knowledge into practice during our project
