out with the old, in with the new...
Our last meeting of the year saw us sharing our project and ideas with Anne from the Bradwell Abbey Lacemakers. She showed us some divine examples of lace she had made in the past, and taught us some of the basics of lacemaking. We steamed our way through a pile of mince pies and a bag of chocolate whilst attempting to follow a lace snake pattern- which was executed rather slowly but very successfully.
So, after a solid hour of maniacally festive fun, we thanked Anne for a totally great introduction to lace and parted ways. It's been a fantastic autumn for For'm and at our next meeting - Jan 8th - we will be ready to hit the ground running!
Merry Xmas!!

visit from the Parks Trust!
We were lucky enough to have a visit from the Parks Trust this week, learning about managing woodland, the endless uses of natural foraged wood and how we can put our new knowledge into practice during our project

cartoons today are so rubbish...
For'm's meeting on the 20th Nov took place amongst the ArtworksMK xmas show in the gallery. The nights getting darker and colder, a bit of escapism into the world of animation was necessary. To give us a nice, broad range of film choice to be explored during our future screenings (watch this space) we started by looking at 3 films- all very different but all delectable examples of storytelling at it's best...
'Black Orpheus' a film by Marcel Camus
'Gypsy Caravan: When the Road Bends' a film by Jasmine Dellal
and the masterpiece of choice 'BelleVille Rendezvous' a film by Sylvain Chomet

wonders of wood...
Tuesday the 13th Nov introduced the group to working with greenwood in our wood workshop. using collected branches from the site, we used craft knives, a hand axe and....vegetable peelers to whittle our branches into teeny tiny totem poles.
After all agreeing the power of the doodle was mighty, we got out the paints and adorned our wood whilst musing over life's little details - finding common ground over many a thing...
as everybody's subconscious began to take over, we talked about Yayoi Kusama and her influence on contemporary culture

In the beginning...
On September 25th 2012, a select number of students from Stantonbury school came together to create FOR'M- a youth forum that existed within ArtworksMK, Great Linford.
After 5 group meetings, 2 encounters with local artist/practitioners and a lot of constructive doodling, a project was devised...the making of a heritage hut.
Over the next few months, FOR'M will focus on learning and using four crafts traditional to the area: blacksmithing, straw-plaiting, lace-making and green woodworking; and aim to explore new techniques during the making of our on-site installation. The final conclusion of the project will result in an opening event, inviting friends, family and inquisitive visitors to enjoy and marvel at the wonders of these fast fading crafts.
This site is dedicated to the progress of the project, and the many influences that inspire FOR'M as they push their creative boundaries to new levels!
enjoy...
